Banking Goes Mobile

April 25th, 2007 at 1:30 p.m.

Time, has an interesting article about a pretty big step towards making mobile payment mainstream. Citibank is now offering a free mobile banking service called Citi Mobile.

The service which is being rolled out initially on a few mobile service providers, will support over 100 handsets, meaning that the user interface will be a mobile application, not the mobile web, which is a good choice given that mainstream consumers are still trying to figure out what to do with the mobile web.

With big players like Citi, Wachovia, PayPal, Verisign and others diving into mobile payments, it looks like this nut may get cracked. Question is, will consumers adopt it?
